Stanford Thoburn Parking Garage

Location: Palo Alto, CA

Project Type: Site Work

Designed excavation shoring for a three level below grade parking garage at Stanford’s Graduate Student Housing Project, Escondido Village. The plan dimensions for the site measured approximately 350 feet by 200 feet. The shoring design involved steel soldier beams with tiebacks and wood lagging. There were three levels of tiebacks, with some specially designed to avoid underground utilities in adjacent Serra Street. In addition to the soil pressures, the bulkhead was also designed for the surcharge loads from two future adjacent buildings. We also worked with the drilling contractor and the general contractor to develop a support system for the excavator used removing soil from the site.
