Designed excavation shoring for a 15-foot deep single basement residential building. The bulkhead lines were located close to the property lines and within the influence zone of adjacent buildings. The plan dimensions for the site measured approximately 140 feet by 60 feet. Tiebacks were not an option, so we developed a steel soldier beam and wood lagging system with top cross-lot steel strut and waler bracing to minimize lateral bulkhead movement and reduce the potential for settlement damage in the adjacent buildings. The elevation of the struts was selected to be above the first floor level slab so that the entire basement would be constructed before the shoring struts were removed.
