Size: 72,000 square feet
Scope: Structural Engineering
Burton Elementary was an adaptation of a prototype school originally constructed in Nevada. Adjusting the design for California, the team addressed the state’s higher seismic requirements and sought to meet energy efficiency criteria established by the Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS). CHPS criteria affected material selection, energy and water efficiency, indoor environmental quality, and innovation. These criteria were interwoven into this project’s four concrete tilt-up buildings – two, 2-story buildings and two, 1-story structures. Role: FTF Associate Melissa Hazlett, Project Manager while at a previous firm.
