About Us

Randy E. Collins, SE earned his B.S. in Structural Engineering (Magna Cum Laude) at UC San Diego, and his M.S. in Civil Engineering from UC Berkeley on a Regents Fellowship. He spent 5 years practicing structural engineering at Magnusson-Klemencic Associates, Degenkolb Engineers, and Hathaway-Dinwiddie.

He worked primarily on large projects such as Safeco Field (home of the Seattle Mariners baseball team); Kaiser Hospital San Francisco; a 200,000 sq. ft. US Army Armored Tank factory converted into a new state-of-the-art internet co-location facility; and a 350,000 sq. ft. biotech lab for a leading biotechnology company.

While working for the large firms, Randy gained invaluable experience working with owner's representatives, contractors, and architects, learning to listen well and communicate clearly to expedite construction.

Building upon his seasoned ability to translate structural concepts to non-technical people, Randy started FTF Engineering in 2002 and is now specializing in custom residential and small commercial buildings.

Other than enjoying taking clients to lunch, Randy has passion for: Jesus, his family, cycling, wine, cooking, coffee, and chocolate.
