Structural, Shoring, and Civil Engineering
by FTF Engineering
Want to minimize
complexity and cost?
When your project requires structural, civil and shoring engineering, FTF provides:
- Single point of contact for architect and contractor
- Design coordination by FTF reduces the architect’s work.
- Integrated design leads to cost efficiencies.
- Meetings and site visits by 1 company, not three
The results are less work for the architect, better coordination for the contractor, and cost savings for the owner.
What Our Clients are Saying
Here are two testimonials from clients who hired FTF for multiple scopes of work on their proejcts:
I have worked with FTF Engineering on two large and complicated single-family residential projects.
FTF has the unique ability to combine world class engineering and personalized service. They handled shoring design, civil and structural engineering. They managed complicated structural engineering with ease. There was zero doubt in my mind who I would turn to when my second project came along. FTF thinks outside of the box and proposes solutions that others would not even mention.
They are quite simply the most outstanding group of people I have ever had the pleasure of working with on a construction project, and continues to exceed my expectations at every turn. I am beyond grateful for their expertise, guidance and world class customer service.
— Shane Busch, Owner
From an architect working with FTF on a project where we provided structural, shoring, and guidance for temporary building shoring:
At a time when construction demand is at its highest, it is very hard to find a structural or civil firm that can devote proper time to a project and make sure everything is perfectly coordinated. FTF makes a great effort to go above and beyond what is expected of them – they get their work done efficiently and on time. Both structural and civil teams are diligent in their work and always make sure everything is detailed and properly coordinated with all teams.
Our architectural design has never been compromised by the structural aspects, as they are always able to find new ways to make the aesthetics work…
FTF is an exceptional company and it’s been a great pleasure working with them. I look forward to our future collaboration on many projects to come.
— Clarissa, Architect

FTF Finished Projects – Hillsborough Residence
This new ground-up house is carved into the gentle green hillside of Hillsborough. An elegant and modern residence that combines the indoor/outdoor living in the warm weather of the San Francisco Peninsula. A pool, spa, outdoor BBQ, and pool-house are just few of the luxury features of this house. The high-end experience continues inside with open spaces and two story high ceiling in the lobby, a master suite, media room, and a design award winning kitchen. FTF Engineering was able to complement the unique architectural design by Dan Phipps Architects with elegant and resilient structural solutions that withstand the forces of nature.
Hollywood Residence – In Construction
Located in the center of Los Angeles, this new single family residence combines luxurious architectural features with state of the art engineering. FTF Engineering was ready when the call arrived from a good client that requested from us to design a residence that is capable to withstand the largest earthquake without damaging the residence. The FTF team combined advanced seismic analysis with modern building technology to create one of the most seismically resilient private residences in the world. The project is currently in construction and is expected to be completed in 2019. We also designed the excavation shoring system that utilized steel soldier beams and cross-lot bracing to protect adjacent properties.
This spring FTF teamed up with William Duff Architects and Murray Engineers rally about 30 AEC industry cyclists to ride the Wine Country Century hosted by the Santa Rosa Cycling Club. It was a great day on the bike and relaxing after completing one of the 100-mile, 100-km, or 35-mile routes. Randy Collins, James Enright, and Nadia Makoor participated in this event from FTF.
After doing the Wine County Century in May we kept up the momentum and in June a smaller group of AEC friends tackled a beautiful 75-mile ride with almost 9,000 feet of elevation gain that included the front and backside of Mount Hamilton. Randy Collins and James Enright rode their bikes in this strenuous but fun cycling event.
We had an amazing tour of San Francisco’s tallest building, the Sales Force Tower. Our very own John Dal Pino, S.E. arranged for a structural tour of the Sales Force Tower for our staff, guided by his friend Superintendent John Rottman of Hathaway Dinwiddie Construction Company.
New Staff – Interns
We are excited to inform you that we have two engineering interns and an office intern for the summer! Kai Ling Liang is helping us with project work in the San Francisco office and Arzhang Derakhshani is our intern in the San Luis Obispo office. They are both engineering students at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. In addition, we have an office intern, Nicole Anderson, in the San Francisco office helping us with administrative tasks. We are grateful to have all 3 of these talented youth.
